{Staircases: A Centrepiece in Any Space
Staircases are a key feature in both residential and commercial spaces, serving as a functional pathway between levels while also contributing to the overall visual appeal of a building. Stairway designs are flexible, with a diverse variety of designs that cater to different functional and design requirements. From modern Floating stairs to ornate Bifurcated designs, there’s a stairway for every type of space.
{Bifurcated Stairs: Great for Formal Entrances
Bifurcated stairs are celebrated for their impressive, balanced appearance, often found in mansions. Bifurcated stairway designs include a main flight that divides into two at a platform, often turning away from each other. These staircases are praised for their dramatic and impressive appearance, often used in formal areas. This design offers a symmetrical and elegant look, often accentuated with elegant banisters or chandeliers. While they require ample space and budget, Bifurcated stairs are a enduring symbol of luxury.
{Floating Staircases: Ideal for Sleek Homes
A Floating staircase is known by its clean design, creating the appearance of treads suspended in air. These stairs are designed with hidden supports or concealed attachments, giving them a clean, floating look. Floating staircases are commonly used in modern interiors to create a airy feel. The simple design of Floating stairway designs allows other interior elements, like decor, to become design highlights. While visually appealing, these stairs demand precise engineering to guarantee stability.
{Curved Stairs: Great for Grand Spaces
The layout of Curved stairway designs involves a smooth arc that creates a sense of elegance. Curved stairs are more comfortable to use than Spiral ones, as their gentle arc provides a more comfortable climb. Curved stairway designs are a signature element in spacious homes, traditional properties, or luxury hotels, where they stand out as a design feature. Creating Curved stairway designs requires a great deal of skill and is usually more expensive than other styles. Despite the cost, the result is a breathtaking design element that transforms any interior.
{Why Spiral Staircases Are a Special Option
Spiral staircases are known for their efficient, circular design with a supporting pole. The Spiral option is great for compact spaces, such as lofts, where conventional staircases are too large. Spiral stairs can be made from wood, enabling a selection of creative choices. While they are practical, they can be more tricky to climb, especially for those carrying large items. Their unique appearance makes them a favoured choice for adding a creative touch to interiors.
{The Charm of L-Shaped Stairs
L-shaped stairway designs are celebrated for their L-shaped design, which usually includes a platform. This style is great for tiny homes, as the turn helps the stairway design fit easily into a corner. The landing also provides a convenient resting point, making it more comfortable to ascend and descend. The turn in L-shaped stairs makes them safer compared to Straight designs. Additionally, this style offers visual interest, as the curve can be accentuated with stylish railings or lights to create a focal point in the home.
{U-Shaped Staircases: Great for Grand Interiors
A U-shaped stairway design includes two flights that run in line, connected by a landing that makes a 180-degree turn. This design is typically used in more spacious homes or public buildings where upward space is abundant. The U-shape is space-efficient, offering a grand aesthetic without taking up too much room. A landing in the midway point of the staircase can be used for both pausing and aesthetics. This option is connected to elegance and is a favoured choice in luxurious or classic homes.
{Straight Stairs: A Compact Solution
The Straight staircase is a classic and minimalist style option. Their design includes a direct line of stairs that connect two floors without turns. People often choose this design for its straightforward layout and compact features. These stairway designs are extremely flexible and complement both modern and traditional home designs. They are also more straightforward to navigate, making them a practical choice for homes with children or elderly residents. For compact homes, the vertical space needed for Straight stairs can be a challenge.
{Stairway Designs: A Perfect Combination of Design and Utility
Stairs are a ideal example of how practicality and aesthetics can come together in architecture. Whether you prefer a minimalist Straight staircase or an elaborate U-shaped design, the options are almost endless. No matter the time period, staircases will continue to be a defining feature of how we move through and appreciate spaces.
Newcastle Council tackles dangerous staircases
More than 3,000 homes and 57 blocks of flats with potentially dangerous staircases have been identified by Newcastle City Council.
The ‘Ranch’ style staircase design, which features horizontal guarding, is classified as a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.
Concerns about the staircases were raised last year, with residents warning that children use them as ladders or try to climb between the horizontal boarding.
